CANE HILL RELEASES ‘SMILE’

1 min read

Formed in 2011, Cane Hill is a nu metal band based out of New Orleans. Fronted by Elijah Witts, the group is also made up of James Barnett (guitar), Ryan Henriquez (bass), and Devin Clark (drums). Smile, the band’s newest album was just released July 15th.

Overall, Smile is a promising album. Cane Hill’s use of techno in most of their songs adds an interesting element to their music. The highlights of Smile are “St. Veronica” and “Fountain of Youth”. Both of these songs are the most exciting and fun tracks on the album. The intro to “St. Veronica” is a funky synth beat that pulls listeners in even before the driving forces of Clark’s drumming takes over. “Fountain of Youth” starts off slow, almost pulsing, before quickly building into a fast paced head banger. Out of all the songs on Smile, “Fountain of Youth” showcases Cane Hill’s musicianship. Smile is a unique album that not only showcases the band’s talent, but their artistry as well. “(The New) Jesus” begins with what sounds like a record player being played backwards before the music begins. A little nod to the “hidden messages” that can be heard during backmasking. If you are looking for something different to listen to this summer, Smile is the album for you! With their fast paced songs and Witts’ powerful vocals, you’re sure to be head banging from start to finish. Fans can also catch the band as they play this summer on the Vans Warped Tour.
