Jimmy Eat World Cancel Shows After Eye Emergency

1 min read

Jimmy Eat World have withdrawn from Louder Than Life in Louisville and Shaky Knees in Atlanta after singer and guitarist Jim Adkins underwent surgery for a detached retina. The medical emergency also forced the band to cancel their Warped Tour appearance in Mexico City.

Adkins described what happened in a tour update shared by the band. While preparing to perform on Sunday, September 13, 2026, he noticed a “shadow cloud” moving into his vision. After researching the symptoms, he sought immediate medical attention. An examination revealed the detached retina and the need for urgent surgery.

The decision to cancel the Mexico City set followed a warning from his doctor. Adkins said attempting to perform could have caused permanent damage, leaving the band unable to go ahead with the appearance.

The cancellations extend to two festival bookings later that week. Jimmy Eat World had been scheduled to play Louder Than Life on September 17 and Shaky Knees on September 19. Adkins acknowledged the disappointment of missing audiences in both cities as well as Mexico City.

The interruption comes during the band’s 2026 celebration of Bleed American, with a tour built around the album’s 25th anniversary. The headline shows were announced with performances of the entire record alongside other material from their catalog.

Adkins has completed surgery and returned home, though his statement did not give a timetable for resuming performances. “I am back home, out of surgery and starting the recovery process,” he wrote.
