Chad Gray Fears for His Voice After Vocal Injury

1 min read

Chad Gray says a vocal injury has left him afraid for his future as a singer. The Mudvayne and Hellyeah frontman discussed his health on an October 5 episode of The Jesea Lee Show, released amid cancellations on his 30 Years of Madnesss solo tour.

He initially suspected allergies when his voice faltered during rehearsals in Nashville, but the trouble persisted as the tour began. An examination revealed one vocal fold twice the width of the other and a broken blood vessel, he said. “I’m fucking scared to death,” Gray told Lee. He had been advised to rest his voice. Surgery had not been recommended at the time of the interview, although he worried he might eventually need it.

In his October 4 cancellation announcement, reproduced by Blabbermouth, Gray apologized to fans and said he had also fallen ill on the day of his Aftershock performance. He explained that taking a break was necessary to protect his health and give him a chance to continue the tour. The affected dates were October 5 at House of Blues in San Diego and October 6 at Observatory OC in Santa Ana.

The October 7 performance at Fremont Country Club in Las Vegas remains scheduled. Gray offered to transfer meet and greet purchases from the canceled shows to that date, with refunds for those unable to attend. He said customers should email his team to arrange a transfer. Concert tickets purchased through Ticketmaster would be refunded automatically, according to his announcement, while buyers who used another reseller should contact their point of purchase.
