Jinjer Raises the Roof at The Fillmore in Philadelphia

2 mins read

This June, Ukrainian progressive metal icons Jinjer have made their return to North America with a long-awaited headliner tour. This tour follows the release of their most recent album Duél, which came out in February 2025. Beginning on June 5 in Ottawa, ON, the band will stop in major cities across the U.S. and Canada until the tour’s conclusion on July 25 with a stop at Warped Tour Long Beach. On June 14, which directly followed a stop at Warped Tour DC on June 13, the band visited The Fillmore in Philadelphia to deliver a mesmerizing show that the fans would never forget.

Kicking the night off was Nashville-based deathcore band Entheos. The band has been an up and coming name within the scene in the past few years due to frontwoman Chaney Crabb’s incredibly versatile vocals, and will only continue to rise in popularity due to this massive tour. With brutal breakdowns, electrifying riffs, and thunderous rhythms, Entheos will capture the attention of any metal fan, especially if they’re looking for something heavy. Chaney Crabb’s vocals are a standout as she delivers vicious screams, and effortlessly switches between different screaming techniques. Not only that, but she also delivers beautifully melodic clean vocals. As Entheos continues to grow, she will no doubt be widely considered one of the most dynamic vocalists in metal. After the set was over, the band certainly gained many new fans that night.

The second and final opener was Japan-based metalcore band Crystal Lake. Having recently released their new album, The Weight of Sound, in January, the band opened with several new songs from the album, such as “Everblack”, “BlüdGod”, and “Neversleep”. With a heavy and high-octane sound, Crystal Lake easily got the crowd moving, causing mosh pits to ensue throughout the set. The palpable energy from the band also made it easy for the crowd to get engaged with the performance; guitarists Yudai Miyamoto and Hisatsugu Taji and bassist Mitsuru showed their passion for performing as they headbanged and ran across the stage. Fill-in vocalist Myke Terry delivered brutal screams that kept the crowd headbanging. By the end of the set, the fans were fully energized for Jinjer’s upcoming performance.

At 9pm, the lights began to dim for the final time that night as excitement filled the room. As the screens on the back of the stage began to light up, the band finally walked on stage as the crowd cheered. The band opened the set with three tracks from the new album, “Duél”, “Green Serpent”, and “Fast Draw”, before going into older tracks such as “Vortex” and “Disclosure!”. No matter the song, the crowd remained fully engaged in the set, as Jinjer’s sound is unlike any other’s. Combining elements of nu-metal, death metal, post-hardcore, and more, no Jinjer song sounds the same, keeping the fans on their toes.

Vocalist Tatiana Shmayluk, dressed in a silver outfit reminiscent of a knight, mesmerized the crowd as she easily switched from beautiful clean vocals to vicious screams. Her commanding stage presence is a hallmark of the band and is unrivaled by any other vocalist. The stage setup was also intriguing, with platforms of screens showing creative animations for each song. As the show continued, the band continued to perform a variety of old and new songs, such as the fan-favorite 2019 track “Teacher, Teacher!” and “Kafka” from the new album. Throughout the set, the pit remained active as fans kept moshing and even started some circle pits.

Towards the end of the set, Jinjer performed their biggest hit “Pisces” from their 2016 album King of Everything, and the fans showed no signs of slowing down. The first crowdsurfers of the night started coming through and the pit became bigger than ever, with people moshing until the final note. Once the band left the stage, the fans clamored for “one more song”. Soon enough, Jinjer returned to the stage as the venue filled with cheers. They performed the 2016 track “Sit Stay Roll Over”, and the fans continued to mosh and crowdsurf, ending the night with a bang. Jinjer’s performance in Philadelphia certainly left a lasting memory for every fan that attended that night.

I’ve always loved making art, and because of my love for music, I ended up finding my passion for concert photography. After years of taking pictures on my phone at every concert I went to, I finally started doing concert photography professionally in 2024.
