Chicago Delivers a Sold-Out Night of Timeless Hits at Hershey Theatre

2 mins read

The legendary rock band with horns, Chicago, proved once again why it has remained one of America’s most enduring live acts, filling the Hershey Theatre to capacity on Tuesday, June 23, with a sold-out performance that celebrated nearly six decades of unforgettable music.  2026 marks the band’s 59th year of consecutive touring (they’ve never missed a calendar year on the road! Even during Covid).

Returning to Hershey for the first time since April 2023, Chicago took the stage promptly without an opening act, allowing fans to enjoy two hours of music spanning the band’s remarkable career. The 31-song setlist showcased both deep cuts and chart-topping classics, with the entire second half of the evening devoted to one hit after another, keeping the audience on its feet from start to finish.

The latest addition to the band roster is lead vocalist Rudy Cardenas. Filling a role in a band with such an iconic history is no easy task, but Cardenas handled it with confidence and respect. Rather than trying to imitate those who came before him, he honored Chicago’s legacy while adding his own vocal personality and stage presence. His performances fit seamlessly alongside the band’s trademark horn arrangements and impeccable musicianship, earning enthusiastic applause throughout the night.

The concert was also a heartfelt tribute to the musicians who helped shape Chicago’s legendary catalog. Throughout the evening, photographs of former band members appeared on the large video screen as the current lineup paused to thank them and recognize the songs they had written or helped create. These touching moments reminded the audience that Chicago’s success has always been built upon the contributions of many talented musicians over nearly six decades.

From the opening notes through the final encore, the band’s precision was remarkable. The signature horn section remained as vibrant and powerful as ever, while longtime members demonstrated the chemistry that has defined Chicago’s live performances for generations. The second half of the concert became a celebration of the band’s incredible catalog, delivering fan favorites one after another and transforming the historic theater into a singalong.

Chicago’s longevity remains unmatched in American rock music. The band is the first American rock group to chart Top 40 albums in six consecutive decades. Grammy Award-winning, Platinum-selling, and inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2016, Chicago continues to earn new accolades, with “Saturday in the Park” recently receiving Double Platinum certification from the RIAA. Even more remarkable, 2026 marks the band’s 59th consecutive year of touring—a streak uninterrupted even during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Recognized by Billboard as the highest-charting American band on its Top 125 Artists of All Time list, Chicago continues to demonstrate why its music has endured for generations. The band’s popularity remains strong as it has already announced additional 2026 tour dates and will return for its ninth consecutive residency at The Venetian Theatre in Las Vegas, where it has become the venue’s longest-running residency artist.

For Hershey fans, Tuesday night’s sold-out performance served as a reminder that great songs never grow old. Chicago continues to blend exceptional musicianship, heartfelt nostalgia, and fresh energy into a concert experience that appeals to longtime fans and newer audiences alike. With Rudy Cardenas successfully stepping into the spotlight while honoring the band’s rich history, Chicago showed that even after nearly six decades, the band remains very much alive, evolving, and still capable of delivering one of classic rock’s most satisfying live performances.

Sharon has been shooting music since the 80s. She started with local bands and worked her way up to becoming the house photographer for Hershey for many years. She also spent several years photographing the in-park entertainment at Hersheypark. At one point, she even had the opportunity to spend a few days on the road with Poison. Her photos were featured in their tour book as well as in the Flesh and Blood liner notes. Sharon has also been a photographer for Stars on Ice for the last six years, with her work appearing in their tour books, merchandise, and billboard campaigns. Sharon also has a passion for wildlife photography. The concept behind both concerts and wildlife is surprisingly similar — you need to know your subject, understand their habits, and be ready to anticipate the action. When she isn’t behind the camera, Sharon works as an IT Project Manager in the Harrisburg area.
