Sharon Osbourne was born on October 9, 1952, in London. Her work managing Ozzy Osbourne developed into a career spanning concert promotion and television production, with Ozzfest and The Osbournes extending the audience around his music.

The daughter of music manager and concert producer Don Arden, she entered the business as a teenage receptionist before moving into promotions. Working around her father’s artists gave her an early introduction to the industry, including Black Sabbath. That connection became central to her own career when she took over managing Ozzy after his dismissal from the band in 1979.

In a 2025 interview with Metal Hammer, Sharon recalled that Ozzy believed his career was finished. She encouraged him to attempt a solo career and described guitarist Randy Rhoads as a patient, reassuring collaborator during that rebuilding period. Their working relationship depended partly on restoring the singer’s confidence enough to make another start. Asked about receiving credit for Ozzy’s success, she told the magazine, “We were a team. I never thought, ‘What about me?’”

Ozzy’s debut solo album, Blizzard of Ozz, followed in 1980, with “Crazy Train” and “Mr. Crowley” establishing material beyond his Sabbath recordings. Sharon handled management as Ozzy and his musicians developed that new chapter. By the time MTV began filming their family more than two decades later, her relationship with his career had already encompassed records, international touring and the creation of a festival bearing his name.

Ozzfest grew out of a booking rejection. Sharon told Metal Hammer that she had wanted Ozzy to appear at Lollapalooza but was told he was no longer relevant. Her response was to establish a festival centered on metal. The first Ozzfest dates took place in Phoenix on October 25, 1996, and San Bernardino on October 26. A wider touring schedule followed in 1997, turning the initial two-show event into a recurring opportunity to put heavy music before large audiences.

The festival also connected generations of bands. Acts including Limp Bizkit and Slipknot gained exposure through Ozzfest, while established performers anchored its bills. Sharon’s work had expanded from managing one singer to helping assemble a setting where other artists could reach his audience. In the Metal Hammer interview, she identified Ozzfest as a particular source of pride because of the bands that emerged through it.

The Osbournes opened another route to audiences when it premiered on MTV on March 5, 2002. Sharon, Ozzy and their teenage children Kelly and Jack appeared in a series built around their family life. Even its opening music connected the domestic setting to Ozzy’s catalog: Pat Boone performed a jazzy version of “Crazy Train.” Sharon also worked on the production, earning a 2002 Emmy when the series won Outstanding Non-Fiction Program (Reality).

Her concert work continued through Back to the Beginning, held at Birmingham’s Villa Park on July 5, 2025. Sharon oversaw the event, with Tom Morello serving as musical director. She later explained that its starting point was asking Ozzy what would make him happy; he wanted to perform again and say goodbye to his fans. The resulting concert included an Ozzy solo set and a reunion of Black Sabbath’s original four members, giving both parts of his recording career a place in his final performance.
