Memphis May Fire’s Matty Mullins and Silverstein’s Shane Told are among the singers on Wendy’s new EP, Songs to Listen to in a Wendy’s Parking Lot. Released September 23 in collaboration with Rise Records, the six songs use the chain’s food and restaurants as material for emo heartbreak.
Mullins opens the record with “She Said She Didn’t Want Fries.” His contribution introduces a collection that also finds room for a combo meal after a breakup and a funeral for a Frosty. Wendy’s has posted videos for each song on its official YouTube channel.
For blessthefall singer Beau Bokan, the meal is part of getting over someone. He features on “The Best Combo Meal on the Worst Night of my Life,” singing that “Frosty spoons will get me over you.”
Told’s “I Miss the Sunroom” looks beyond the menu. The Silverstein singer laments the sunrooms associated with older Wendy’s locations, making the restaurant’s architecture the subject of his nostalgia. His song is the third track on the EP.
Winona Fighter’s Chloe Kinnon and State Champs’ Derek DiScanio also contribute vocals, while Holy Wars’ Kat Leon closes the record with “My Frosty’s Funeral.” Each of the six tracks has a different featured singer.
Wendy’s had previewed the project with an Instagram post earlier in the week, giving its familiar mascot a fringe across one eye. “It was never a phase,” the caption read, alongside the release date.
Songs to Listen to in a Wendy’s Parking Lot runs about 22 minutes and is available on Spotify and Apple Music.
