Four Chord 12 Makes a Triumphant Return to Pittsburgh

For the 12th year, Four Chord Music Festival made its resilient return on September 25–26, 2026, in what seemed to be its most triumphant edition to date, successfully anchoring itself at F.N.B. Stadium in Station Square. Over the course of two days and across two stages, nearly 30 bands delivered an absolute masterclass in alternative, punk, and heavy music.

Being positioned right along the Monongahela River provided a refreshing breeze across the stadium. The staggered, non-overlapping stage schedules meant fans never had to choose between their favorite artists. The Pittsburgh city skyline served as a major visual anchor and a symbolic homecoming for the 12th annual Four Chord Music Festival.

The open end of the venue looks directly north across the water toward the towering skyscrapers of Downtown Pittsburgh’s “Golden Triangle.” As day turned to night, bands performed with a striking, illuminated wall of iconic buildings framing the stages beautifully. Fans sat in stadium bleachers admiring their view as they caught their breath or ate their food, with some even catching a quick catnap.

Friday night belonged entirely to the heavy hitters. Guided by an incredibly intense headlining set from Knocked Loose, the crowd was whipped into a frenzy of massive mosh pits and continuous crowd surfing.

While the festival leaned heavily into metalcore and hardcore slots this year, Bayside ended up carving out the perfect sweet spot. Their set was a flawless blend of massive, anthemic pop-punk choruses and intricate, heavy guitar work that few bands in the scene can replicate. Frontman Anthony Raneri’s vocals sounded as biting and passionate as they did twenty years ago, driving huge crowd sing-alongs that unified this Pittsburgh audience.

The heavier curation of day one—bolstered by a punishingly crisp performance from Underoath and chaotic energy from Kublai Khan TX—proved that Four Chord can pivot to hardcore flawlessly without losing its identity.

Saturday shifted the dynamic beautifully into pure scene nostalgia and pop-punk bliss. Mainstays like Mayday Parade and State Champs kept the energy high while positioned alongside acts like Motion City Soundtrack—where nostalgia met new material.

To add to the early 2000s throwbacks, Finch had the crowd unified by sharing the experience of hearing these classic tracks live. They transformed the chaotic energy into a massive moment of community for the “elder emo” crowd.

Boys Like Girls made a performance worth highlighting with a production that was unapologetically maximalist—bursts of blinding crowd-wash lighting synchronized perfectly with towering columns of fire, turning every pop-punk anthem into a brilliant, larger-than-life visual explosion.

Notably, they repeated their hit “The Great Escape” as a nostalgic treat for fans to enjoy. Singer Martin Johnson directed the crowd: “One time with your phones out and one with your phones away.” It was honestly one of the nicest touches a digital world could use from any artist. One response from the crowd was “See! I told you they play it twice!”

The weekend’s true “King for a Day” crowning moment was Saturday’s headliner, Pierce the Veil. Marking their first proper Pittsburgh city-limits show in nearly a decade, the post-hardcore giants delivered a flawless, anthemic performance that had the entire stadium singing along to every word.

Due to last-minute restrictions with Pierce the Veil, press members were moved from the barricade to the crowd, significantly limiting the angles and visual scope of the headliner’s coverage.

Despite navigating logistical hurdles in past years, the 2026 iteration proved that Four Chord is not only standing but thriving as the region’s premier alternative music celebration for the ages.
