Steel Panther Finish First Album Since On the Prowl

1 min read

Steel Panther have completed their seventh studio album, with Michael Starr pointing to spring 2027 for its release.

Speaking with Tommy London and Tor on The Mighty VH podcast, Starr said the record remained untitled while work continued on its artwork. “All the songs are done,” he said, according to Blabbermouth’s transcription.

The project developed through a different recording process for the band. In September 2025, drummer Stix Zadinia told Rob Chapman’s Lo-Fi Podcast that Steel Panther had entered Dave Grohl’s Studio 606 with longtime producer Jay Ruston to record four songs. They intended to return for additional sessions, but had not yet settled on whether the material would become an album, an EP or a series of singles.

Working in smaller batches gave the musicians more time to concentrate on individual tracks. Zadinia explained that their usual approach involved assembling an album’s worth of songs, booking the studio and recording them together. This time, they could focus their energy on fewer songs before deciding what came next. At that stage, the band was operating without a record label and setting its own timetable.

The studio itself was another attraction. Zadinia singled out the former Sound City Neve console and praised the room for recording drums, guitars and bass. Those sessions reunited Steel Panther with Ruston after the band had handled production themselves on On the Prowl, released February 24, 2023.

Their business arrangements changed as the new music developed. Steel Panther announced their signing to Frontiers Music alongside “The Mother’s Day Song” on May 8, 2026. The release ended a three year gap between original songs and introduced the partnership with a typically irreverent take on the holiday.

The lineup remained Michael Starr, guitarist Satchel, drummer Stix Zadinia and bassist Spyder, who had also appeared on On the Prowl. That album contained 13 tracks, including “1987” and “Friends With Benefits,” and was the group’s sixth studio release.

Starr expects singles to begin arriving in February 2027, followed by the album and a tour.
