If you’re looking for some new southern rock n roll then Shallow Side might just be the band you’ve been looking for. They just released their latest endeavor Origins on July 13, 2018. The new recording is comprised of 11 tracks, eight of which come from previous EPs and three new creations. Origins combines their greatest hits with a punch of new from this foursome from Cullman, Alabama.
Their southern roots shine throughout the entire collection starting with the intro “Crutch”, one of the new tunes. This one starts out slow and builds into a banger. “Rebel” is off the EP One. It is a very catchy tune, which has garnered radio airplay for the band. “My Addiction” is my favorite with some heavy rhythms pounding from Heath Fields on drums.
“Crazy” slows things down and really highlights the vocals and passion that Eric Boatright brings to each of his songs. “Try to Fight It” shows off the talents of Matt Daniels and Seth Trimble who have the duties of strings for the band. This song really talks to each and everyone of us who have gone through a painful relationship and know that we shouldn’t continue with it. The lyrics are intense and relatable.
The next two “Stand Up” and “We Won’t Die” have the similar inspirational themes of never giving up. The final three songs slow things to a softer, purely passionate level with “Home Today”, “Try to Fight It” and “Out of Reach” all off the 2012 EP Home Today. The band released their first EP in 2012 and has collected accolades from Loudwire as their Best New Artist in 2016. If you like Shaman’s Harvest, Saving Abel or 3 Doors Down, you will likely enjoy the tunes of Shallow Side.
Shallow Side has stated that they want to revitalize the genre of rock and roll and unify with their sing a long ballads and anthems. As a result, they give it all in their live performances. Currently, they are out on tour so do yourself a favor and get out and support rock and enjoy some genuine Southern Rock.
