My Chemical Romance have released “Someone Out There Loves You (Live from Hoboken)” on streaming, accompanied by a video of their October 24, 2007 performance at Maxwell’s in Hoboken, New Jersey. The October 16 release previews The Black Parade (20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition), which arrives October 23 through Reprise Records.
The song has a history that predates its arrival on streaming services. Fans long referred to it as “Stay,” and, as Kerrang! notes, the performance appeared under the name “Untitled” on the DVD portion of the band’s 2008 live collection, The Black Parade Is Dead! The new release gives that archival performance its own audio release and standalone video under the title “Someone Out There Loves You.”
The Maxwell’s show supplies three of the expanded album’s six bonus tracks. Live recordings of “Dead!” and “The Sharpest Lives” join “Someone Out There Loves You,” while the remaining additions are the studio recordings “Heaven Help Us,” “Kill All Your Friends” and “My Way Home Is Through You.” “The Sharpest Lives” was released as an earlier preview of the collection in September.
The band described the reissue as an opportunity to collect material from the sessions for their third album. “For the first time, we have included everything we finished during those sessions in a single collection,” they said in the announcement on their official website. The expanded track list places those studio recordings alongside performances from the tour that followed the original album’s 2006 release.
They also asked artist James Jean to return to the project. Jean created three new pieces featuring characters associated with The Black Parade, revisiting the imagery that accompanied the original record. In their announcement, the band credited his work as an essential part of how the album was first presented.
The deluxe edition will be available digitally and on double vinyl, CD and cassette. Its October 23 release collects the original album and all six bonus tracks in a 20 track set.
