Comeback Kid Release Their Courtney LaPlante Collaboration

1 min read

Comeback Kid have released “Shedding Season,” their new collaboration with Spiritbox vocalist Courtney LaPlante. The official music video arrives just ahead of Chosen Hell, the band’s eighth studio album, with LaPlante and frontman Andrew Neufeld taking opposing roles in its lyrical exchange.

For Neufeld, the song centers on deciding that you’ve carried something painful long enough. In the band’s announcement, he described recognizing the stress and hurt that have accumulated over time, then finding the confidence to move forward without them. LaPlante gives that confrontation a second voice. “It is a back and forth, ‘me against you’ type of lyrical narrative between Courtney and I,” he explained.

Getting her onto the track took some persistence. Neufeld told Knotfest that the two camps already knew one another through shows and mutual friends. Someone suggested collaborating, but he initially dismissed the idea before reconsidering and contacting LaPlante. She was interested, though arranging the recording required several follow ups. A Toronto stop eventually gave her the opportunity to get into a studio and record her contribution.

That willingness to involve other people extended to the album’s creation. Will Putney produced, mixed and mastered Chosen Hell at Graphic Nature Audio in New Jersey. Neufeld told Knotfest that Putney also worked closely on the songwriting, challenging parts that could be stronger and pushing him to revisit both riffs and vocals. The band wanted room for more ambitious production while retaining the melody and aggression they valued.

LaPlante is one of two guest vocalists on the record. Incendiary’s Brendan Garrone appears on “Yesterday’s Gone,” which preceded “Shedding Season.” The two collaborations sit within an 11 track album whose title song examines the choices people make even when they know those decisions are keeping them in an unhealthy situation.

Chosen Hell follows 2022’s Heavy Steps and the 2024 TROUBLE EP. The album arrives November 6, 2026, through SharpTone Records in the U.S. and Dine Alone Records in Canada, with preorders available through the band’s Bandcamp.
