Whitechapel Revisit ‘This Is Exile’ in “Bedlam” Video

1 min read

Whitechapel have released a new music video for “Bedlam,” revisiting a character from This Is Exile through the horror story running across Hymns In Dissonance. Directed by David Brodsky, the NSFW video accompanies a track originally released on the band’s March 7, 2025 album through Metal Blade Records.

Vocalist Phil Bozeman’s explanation gives the song a specific place in that fictional world. Daemon, also known as Craig, is the brother of the cult leader introduced in the earlier story. His resentment comes from seeing his older brother chosen for a role he wanted himself, and death does nothing to settle it. According to Bozeman, “Bedlam” moves between the perspectives of Craig and his dead brother, who remains conscious but unable to escape his own body.

Bozeman describes the scene as “chaos, confusion, and turmoil.” The horror comes from that imbalance: one brother can act on his jealousy while the other can only endure what happens. It also makes the connection to This Is Exile explicit, extending an existing character’s story into the newer album.

That connection was part of the plan for Hymns In Dissonance. In the album’s official background, Whitechapel described it as a thematic continuation of This Is Exile. Its central narrative follows a cult leader gathering followers, with Bozeman building the album’s hymns around the seven deadly sins. The opening two tracks establish the story before it moves deeper into that world.

The record also gave Bozeman room to concentrate on his harsh vocals. Working on the band’s own recording schedule meant he could stop when a session wasn’t productive and return the following day. He used that flexibility to develop his higher screams and experiment with different vocal tones, shaping the voice of a story rooted in fictional horror.

“Bedlam” follows videos for “Prisoner 666,” the title track, “A Visceral Retch,” “Hate Cult Ritual” and “Nothing Is Coming For Any Of Us.” Brodsky’s credits on the new clip include cinematography, editing, color and postproduction effects alongside directing.

Whitechapel’s previously announced 20th anniversary North American tour begins November 11 in Atlanta. The band plans to perform material from across its entire discography, with dates and tickets available through its official website.
