My Chemical Romance Want to Make Album Five in 2027

1 min read

My Chemical Romance want to make their fifth studio album in 2027. Gerard Way shared that intention during the band’s October 30 performance at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, telling fans that recording would probably mean taking a break from shows.

“Next year, we wanna go make a record,” Way said, according to Kerrang!. He explained that the band would likely stay offstage while working, although he left room for a possible performance if they felt they needed one. “There’s no secret code to that,” he added. He also looked toward seeing fans again in 2028, without announcing dates.

The comments give a more specific timeframe to something Way discussed at the Alamodome in San Antonio on September 12. During that show, he said the desire to make another record had remained with the band and thanked fans for continuing to support them. As Rolling Stone reported, he hoped circumstances would allow them to return to recording. The Hollywood Bowl remarks move that conversation forward by identifying 2027 as the year they want to do it.

A fifth album would follow Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, released through Reprise Records on November 22, 2010. My Chemical Romance reunited in 2019 and released “The Foundations of Decay” in May 2022, ahead of their comeback tour. That standalone single gave listeners new studio material, but a full album has remained the larger unanswered question.

Much of the band’s 2026 activity has centered on The Black Parade, with a stadium tour and an expanded edition released on October 23. On their official website, the band described that collection as gathering everything they finished during the original sessions, accompanied by new artwork from James Jean. Way’s recording plans point toward adding a new album to that catalog.

The year he named is a target for making the record. He did not announce an album title, a release date or a confirmed 2028 touring schedule.
