Travis Smith is a Seattle-born photographer who first picked up a camera in 2005 and has been finding excuses to keep picking one up ever since.

A lifelong jack of all trades, with an unreasonable desire to eventually become great at all of them. Travis has spent the years behind the camera exploring just about anything that seemed interesting. His photography and videography have taken him everywhere from the sidelines of professional sports to the chaos of concert photography, always chasing the next subject, the next challenge, and, ideally, the next great shot.

These days, Travis sticks to photography, which brings us to the obvious question: why is his Instagram handle @trav.is.video?
Honestly, it made sense at the time.
Despite the evidence provided by his username, Travis does not really do video anymore. The handle remains, partly out of nostalgia and partly because changing it now would require admitting that 2005 Travis made a branding decision that 2026 Travis has chosen to live with.

For Travis, photography is less about reaching some imaginary finish line and more about constantly trying to get better. There’s always something new to learn, another technique to try, or a photograph that could have been just a little better. The pursuit never really ends, and that’s probably what keeps it interesting.

The jack of all trades thing isn’t going anywhere. He’s still working on the “master of them all” part.

See you in the pit!
