Plush Let Their Scars Show on New ‘Mass Hysteria’

1 min read

Plush have released Mass Hysteria, their second full album, through Pavement Entertainment on September 18, 2026. The successor to their 2021 debut finds singer and guitarist Moriah Formica, bassist Ashley Suppa and drummer Faith Powell confronting the anger that can linger after a difficult experience has passed.

For Formica, survival is the beginning of the story. In the band’s release announcement, she describes an album concerned with what people carry out of a struggle and how they keep going afterward. “This record is about facing the darkest, most volatile parts of ourselves,” she says. Her explanation of the title leaves room for both recovery and lasting damage, with the songs intended as a way for listeners to work through those feelings alongside the band.

That idea first took shape publicly with “Animalistic,” which reached SiriusXM Octane in August ahead of the album. Formica wrote the song with Blair Daly and Zac Maloy, then shared production duties with Kile O’Dell. The track focuses on acknowledging the rage within, a subject the band extended into its official video, directed by Vicente Cordero and released on August 28.

Working with Cordero, Plush used changes in clothing and lighting to show the distance between someone’s public face and their private turmoil. In the band’s explanation of the video, the brighter scenes represent what people choose to let others see. The darker scenes expose the instincts beneath that presentation. That visual division gives the song’s internal conflict a specific form and connects it to Formica’s account of the album’s wider themes.

Plush also wanted the first encounter with these songs to happen in a room with other fans. Their album tour began in August, before the record was available in full, with unreleased material joining songs audiences already knew. “You only get one first listen,” Suppa says in the announcement. She describes the plan as a series of live listening parties, giving the band a chance to introduce the record directly to the people it was written for.

The shows also offer a different setting for the new material through a VIP package that includes an unplugged performance of a song from Mass Hysteria. Powell has described those performances as a chance to spend time with fans and share music before its wider release. With the album now available, listeners can hear the studio recordings behind those early concert previews.

Plush are scheduled to play West End Trading Company in Sanford, Florida, on release day. Their North American run continues into October, with the announced schedule ending October 20 at the Palace Theatre in Albany, New York.
